In November 2008, I had the pleasure of meeting Julie Weiss Murad, founder of the Gabriel Foundation and doing an interview with her. The video files are too large to host here but the links below will take you to the forum where they are embedded in two parts. I apologize for the blurriness, there was a camera malfunction in Denver. It's a good 20 minutes, so grab a cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy!
We quickly discovered that we not only shared a love of parrots and eco-tourism but also a love of bird art. Julie has some wonderful paintings and objets d'art from all over the world and is the first person I have met who has a bigger collection than I do!
She has
her own companion parrots and we got to enjoy the pleasure of their
company at dinner. They weren't shy about grabbing food off of our
plates and drinking from our water glasses!
I also got a full tour of
the facility and got to meet my sponsor golden conures, Banjo and
Zoe!
The property is huge, way out in the countryside with a view of
the Rocky Mountains outside of Denver. During the warmer months, the
birds get to frolic in large outdoor aviaries. Since my visit was
during winter, most of the parrots were indoors.
